- I have successfully installed Ubuntu 10.10 in my laptop (netbook) Toshiba Satellite T110-10R. I followed the advice of this post: Ubuntu install stuck on Kernel_Thread_Helper:
- use wubi to install Ubuntu 10.10 Desktop edition
- the standard installation hangs with the message kernel_thread_helper+0x0/0x10, therefore one has to use the ACPI Workarounds
- after the installation is done, the computer restarts. Then it will hang again unless you change the boot options: press 'e' key in the grub loader and add to the line starting by linux the option acpi=off
- you can edit the file /etc/default/grub and run sudo update-grub to make this load option permanent (check configuring grub 2)
